Just like schools, sports teams, and Cub Scout packs, every troop has its own personality.
Some troops focus heavily on high-adventure activities. Others follow a more structured approach. Some have a very formal atmosphere, while others are more relaxed and flexible. The Scouts themselves also bring different interests, leadership styles, energy levels, and friendships to each troop.
The wonderful thing about Scouts BSA is that there isn't just one way to have a great Scouting experience.
At Troop 574, we believe that Scouting should be both meaningful and fun. We work hard, complete advancement requirements, develop leadership skills, camp often, serve our community, and support every Scout on the path to Eagle Scout. At the same time, we laugh together, build friendships, and create an environment where Scouts feel comfortable being themselves.
Every troop follows the same Scouting program and offers the same opportunity to earn ranks, including Eagle Scout. The difference is often the culture and the people.
We encourage families to visit several troops, attend a meeting, ask questions, and find the group that feels like home.
The best troop isn't necessarily the biggest or the closest. It's the one where your Scout feels welcomed, builds friendships, and looks forward to coming back week after week.
We hope you'll visit Troop 574 and discover whether our Scouting family is the right fit for yours.
If a boys’ troop isn’t the right fit, there are other great ways to experience the adventure of Scouting America. Scouting America offers Girls Troops and Special Needs Troops designed to provide the same opportunities for leadership, outdoor fun, and personal growth — in an environment that best supports each Scout’s needs and goals.
No matter who you are, there’s a place for you in Scouting!

Unregistered Parents/Guardians: Do not need YPT or BSA registration to visit for the day with their youth.
Den Leaders / Registered Scouters: Must already have current YPT and registration.
Rules: Unregistered visiting parents must never be alone with youth other than their own child and must be accompanied by registered leadership.
Parents/Guardians camping with their own child: Under Scouting America’s official Cub Scout Overnight Exception, a parent or legal guardian camping with their own AOL child is exempt from formal BSA registration. However:
While national policy does not formally require non-registered parents to take full online YPT to sleep in a tent with their own child, they must review the “How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide.”
Strong local best practice: Circle Ten Council units and camps strongly encourage or request that all visiting adults take the free online YPT on my.scouting.org prior to arriving at camp.
An unregistered parent must be accompanied by a registered leader anytime they interact with youth other than their own child.
Any adult who is NOT the parent/guardian (grandparent, uncle, family friend, or a den leader acting as unit supervision): Must be a fully registered adult volunteer with current YPT and a cleared background check.
Health Forms: Everyone (youth and adults), regardless of registration status, must bring signed BSA Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A & B).
